General Information

Book Club

The school coordinates book purchases for individuals through the regular book club.

Breakfast program

The P&C runs a breakfast program every Tuesday and Friday, with sponsorship from Woolworths in Woden, Baker’s Delight and Canberra Milk.

Care Policy

The school’s care policy emphasises the rights and responsibilities of all members of the school community.

Enrolment

Children who live in Lyons are automatically accepted at the school. Families who live outside the suburb are also welcome depending on availability of places within the child's receiving class.

Children entering kindergarten must have had their fifth birthday before 30 April in the year of enrolment.

Library

Our library has a very good collection of picture books, beginning chapter books, literature for oder readers, reference and non-fiction material. It is automatically stocked with the Children's Book Council Shortlisted books every year.

Lost Property

There is a lost property cupboard located on the ground floor of the school opposite the library, where children and parents can look for misplaced items of clothing. It does help if all clothing is clearly marked so that its owner can be found.

P&C Awards for Achievement

Special voucher prizes are presented at assemblies throughout the year to recognise individual effort and excellence in classroom work.

School Hours

Lyons Primary School operates from 9 am till 3 pm. As part of our Sun Smart policy we have an early lunch hour from 11.30 am till 12.30 pm and an afternoon recess from 1.30 pm to 1.50 pm.

School Uniform

Children wear the Lyons Primary School colours of red and bottle green to school every day. These colours can be worn on their own or in combination with long black pants, shorts or skirts.

Lyons also has a formal uniform which children are encouraged to wear, particularly at formal school occasions and when representing the school at public events. The formal uniform is as follows:

  • green or black shorts
  • red t-shirt or polo shirt
  • green sweater
  • red or green tracksuit
  • black lace-up shoes or runners
  • green wide-brimmed hat or (in winter) black beanie.

Note: In addition to the above, girls may wear a black netball skirt with black tights in winter or white socks in summer. Year 6 students are presented with a fleecy black vest as part of their leadership role in the school.

Orders for the school uniform can be placed at the front office of the school.

Sun Smart Policy

As part of the school's Sun Smart policy all children are required to wear a hat to school.
