The 2006 Italo-Australian Fun-Run is a great opportunity to support educational and community organisations Shadow Minister Vicki Dunne said today
Mrs Dunne said that the second, annual fun run would raise funds for the Lyons Primary (Bilingual Italian) School and the Italian Cultural Centre in Forrest.
"This great event reflects, more than ever, the conribution of the Italian Community to Canberra.
“This is a great, fun day for all the family, and an opportunity to support a local school, which faces the possibility of closure in the Stanhope Government's fierce attempts to make up for the budget blow out."
Mrs Dunne said that Lyons Primary was in its second year as a bilingual school and it was already showing good results.
“I was so impressed with the school that after a visit there I enrolled my son there. After just one term he is making good progress with his Italian.
“I hope the Stanhope government doesn't end this experiment before it has a chance to really flourish,” Mrs Dunne said.
